Our mission is to be the best roofing advocates for homeowners in our communities. To do that, we have to be accurate in our assessments and completely transparent about the roof and attic. We tell homeowners when they need us and what their options are — with the pros and cons of each — and we tell them when their roof still has life left, so they can plan and make the best decisions for their families.
It took Casey and me nearly five years to earn a reputation as true roofing advocates. As that trust has grown, more and more homeowners, realtors, investors, and property managers lean on our team. To maintain the service standards Casey and I established, we’ve had to bring on more people to support our customers in a timely way — growing from one or two estimators to nine. If you know anything about the tactics some roofing estimators use to scare up business, you understand why protecting our mission and values has to start with how we build that team.
Here are three principles behind how we hire and develop our estimating team:
- We hire for values first. Roofing and roof assessments can be taught — a heart to serve, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine desire to protect the community cannot. So we don’t hire estimators blindly. Zac, Michael, Ben, Daniel (“Big”), Isaiah, Jimmy, William, and Daniel (“Little”) were each approached after Brendan already knew them. Every one came from a different industry, but all already embodied Jobin Roofing’s core values.
- We live a givers-gain mentality. Our value isn’t measured by what we can receive but by what we offer the community as advocates. We invest in training on ventilation, best practices, and products, and we learn from other home contractors so that when we assess your roof we can flag the issues you deserve to know about. Through strong relationships with aligned contractors, we help homeowners coordinate multiple parts of a project — without paying for a general contractor.
- Our conservative financial strategy buys time to develop people. When you’re chasing the dollar, you can’t afford to train; results must be immediate. That’s why so much of the industry runs on canned, one-size-fits-all sales scripts — the training doesn’t give estimators the technical foundation to meet customers where they are. Our approach is the opposite: we give our team the grace period to mature so they can speak directly to what you actually value.
That’s what it means to be built differently. If you’d like an honest, advocate-first assessment of your roof, request a free estimate or call/text 503-523-3449.
